The experience
of the five times world champion was crucial for
developing the new-born TM K12 engine and fundamental
to fill the gap with direct competitors. He was
the second Birel driver in the general classification
and would have managed better without the unfortunate
German weekend in Kerpen. Gianluca Beggio is the
most charismatic driver still competing in the karting
world and one of the most successful. Birel Motorsport
will make use of this fundamental contribution also
in 2002. |

Acquiring experience
in the top karting category was Alessandro's main
objective. He went directly to FSA after winning
the ICA Italian title and naturally found it difficult
to fit in. Very young, unquestionably talented,
the Trieste-born driver brought often out top level
results, but a little superficiality and plenty
of bad luck prevented great success. He will be
collecting the fruits of his work in 2002. |

At his FSA debut
and first season with Birel, the Brescia-born driver
has been confirmed as one of the most promising
talents in Italian karting. Very effective in qualifying,
he managed to realise much less than he should in
races due to technical problems. He showed that
he could be a winning driver when everything goes
well, like the Kerpen weekend. Winning will be his
objective for the next season. |

Attracting the
notice of sector experts thanks to his excellent
results in the latest World Cup events in Japan,
Hiroshi Umegaki was fast and consistent also in
the FSA World Championship. Steadiness of results
characterised his season. He won points in all races
except for race 1 in Belgium. The Japanese driver
favourably impressed everyone also in terms of pure
performance. He was the first Birel driver in the
general classification. |
