Gandolfi and Laudato at the Top

At Varenne in the 2nd and last trial of the championship, Laudato and Gandolfi were in 1st and 2nd place in the ranking. But in France, fortune turned its back on the Birel drivers, who had dominated the scene in the first trial at Ugento together with Manetti. In race 1, at least 10 drivers jumped the gun and both Laudato and Gandolfi were at least 10 positions behind. A desperate attempt at recovery ended with both going off the track caused by a hesitation by Belletti when they has climbed back close to the podium area. In race 2, on the other hand, there were several technical problems to slow down the Birel drivers and, thanks to placing twice, Manetti took the title. Cesetti and Kozlinski ran an excellent race and conquered 2nd and 3rd place.
