Welcome
to the official Birel S.p.A. website. In the name of Birel philosophy,
which has always been targeted to customer service and technology,
we have created a karting portal: the focus is on products,
debates with engineers and drivers, reviews of tracks and information
on the key issues of our sport. Birel is leader on the web,
too. |

30/03/2003 - CAMPIONATO
OPEN MASTER – POMPOSA
RISITANO IS AT HIS BEST IN THE JUNIOR CATEGORY, WHILE
FANETTI, GAGGIANESI AND GATTO MISS A VERY GOOD OPPORTUNITY
IN THE FA CLASS.
LAUDATO (2ND) IS ALWAYS MAINTAINING HIS LEADERSHIP OF
THE 125 ICC CATEGORY IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
The season 2003 of the Italian Open Master Championship
has started from the wonderful racing track of Muro Leccese,
which is the most important test both for manufacturers
and for drivers in expectation of the next international
competitions. And the Birel colours showed once again
to be at their best, maintaining the very good competitive
standards obtained during the Manufacturers Cup run in
Sarno. The European Champion in office Francesco Laudato
had no rivals to compete with in the 125 class and the
Birel drivers ran very good races in the other three categories
involved as well (FA – ICA – ICA Junior),
even though none of them were successful. » 100 ICA
JUNIOR
The Roman Nicolas Risitano could have lived his great
day in Pomposa but the Birel driver, who was at the head
of the group for a long time, had to give himself up to
the Spanish Molina and to the European Champion in office
Buemi, attaining in any case a very good 3rd position.
But the appointment with a full success was only deferred
for Nicolas, who showed his strong character during the
competition with Buemi. Zanella, heading Rendina, placed
himself in the 4th position. Buemi maintains his leadership
in the championship, but several drivers will be able
to take part in the competition for the title.
The race results list: 1st Molina – E (Intrepid-Maxter);
2nd Buemi – CH (Intrepid-Maxter); 3rd Risitano –
I (Birel-TM); 4th Zanella – I (Top-Comer); 5th Rendina
– I (CRG-Maxter).

Good luck did not favour the Birel drivers during
the trial of the 100 Ica category. Both Mapelli
and Tedeschini, despite the very good potential
showed during the race, scored no points in the
trial run in Romagna, where the winner was the Roman
driver Edoardo Piscopo. Provenzano seemed to be
very close to the success but unfortunately some
accidental bumps occurred during the last lap excluded
the Roman driver from the final competition for
the title and caused the relegation of Campana to
the 3rd position as well. This latter driver was
able to maintain the second position for a long
time but finally the Portuguese driver Costa came
in 2nd. Oakes and Piscopo, having the same score,
lead the championship results list.
The race results list: 1st Piscopo –
I (Maranello-TM); 2nd Costa – P (CRG-Maxter);
3rd Campana – I (Birel-TM); 4th Nasca –
I (CRG-Maxter); 5th La Guardia – I (GP-Maxter).

Michele Fanetti missed a great opportunity in Pomposa.
After having attained his pole position, the Lombard
driver had to leave the competition after the very
first laps because of an accidental bump. But Fanetti
expressed his potential once again very clearly
and the young promising driver of the Birel team
will have very soon other chances to recover. Gaggianesi
and Gatto had to leave the race soon as well, when
both drivers were well placed near the top. Sauro
Cesetti attained the first position, heading Van
Dam and Foré. So the driver from Ascoli Cesetti
attained the leadership of the Championship as well,
heading Van Dam and Renaudie.
The race results list: 1st Cesetti –
I (Tony-Vortex); 2nd Van Dam – NL (Tony-Vortex);
3rd Foré – I (Tony-Vortex); 4th Van
Der Zande – NL (CRG-Maxter); 5th Renaudie
– F (PCR-PCR).

125 ICC – The home driver Franco Fumi attained the
first position in the 125 Icc category, heading Francesco
Laudato at the finishing line. The Birel driver maintained
in any case his leadership in the Championship, having
a 9-point lead over Sferrella. After a fast scrimmage
among Ferrara, Spagni and Sferrella, this latter driver
succeeded in getting the better of the others during the
final lap, attaining the third step of the podium.
The race results list: 1st Fumi – I (Maranello-Pavesi);
2nd Laudato – I (Birel-TM); 3rd Sferrella –
I (Top-TM); 4th Spagni – I (Maranello-TM); 5th Ferrara
