08/24/2003 - EUROPEAN 100 ICA–100 ICA JUNIOR
RISITANO AND BIREL - TM COUPLE ARE THE EUROPEAN JUNIOR
CHAMPIONS
BIREL DRIVER ATTAINED AUTHORITATIVELY THE CONTINENTAL
TITLE OF THE 100 ICA / JUNIOR CATEGORY ON THE CORRIDONIA
RACING-TRACK. BIREL COLOURS COULD GET A WONDERFUL DOUBLE
SUCCESS ATTAINING THE ICA TITLE AS WELL, BUT UNFORTUNATELY
THE VERY GOOD DRIVER TEDESCHINI WAS STOPPED, GOING OFF
THE TRACK.
100 ICA / JUNIOR
Birel - Tm couple stood out among the others in the
European Championship of the 100 Ica / Junior category
thanks to the excellent performance made by Nicholas
Risitano. In Corridonia the driver of Latium shows immediately
his intention of getting a prestigious result and during
the qualifying sessions already he attains his pole
position. His formidable direct opponents, from the
Champion in office Buemi to the very fast Spanish driver
Molina are all forced to chase him. During the qualifying
sessions, when the very young driver of Mgm - Birel
team Atte Mustonen and the Dutch driver Waldschmidt
draw attention to themselves, Risitano is twice successful
and gets a second position, placing himself in the front
row for the start of the pre-final together with Molina.
And during the pre-final the driver of Latium keeps
close behind Molina up to the last lap, when with a
decided attack after the first curve he overtakes him,
attaining an important win and the start from the front
row for the Final. After the start of the Final Risitano
is not caught by surprise and he is immediately at the
head of the group. Behind him there is a scrimmage involving
the English driver Calado, Molina, Mustonen and Waldschmidt.
But after the first phases of the race the most authoritative
opponent of Risitano seems to be Calado who during the
last laps, favoured by a slight mistake made by Birel
driver, can recover attaining his 2nd position with
a lead of 56 thousands of a second from the new European
Champion only. The very good driver Mustonen attains
the third step of the podium, completing the success
obtained by Birel team in Corridonia. During the race
Molina slows down very much his rhythm, placing himself
in the 8th position only. Waldschmidt is even unluckier
because he has to withdraw one lap before the end of
the race. The European Champion in office, the Swiss
driver Buemi, places himself in the 4th position, preceding
the Belgian driver Antoine Cassaignes of Gks –
Birel team.

100 ICA
Filippo Tedeschini takes Birel colours very close
to the success in the Ica category as well. The
Emilian driver draws attention to himself during
the qualifying sessions and outdistances the others
authoritatively in the prefinal. Before the Final
he is the favourite and, exploiting at his best
the internal path, he is immediately leading after
the start. But after 8 laps he has to leave the
race because of a touch with the Greek driver
Kamitsakis. And so the Greek driver of Intrepid
team is now leading the race, but after some laps
the Italian driver Bocchi attains the first position,
followed by the French driver Convers, who tries
in the last phases of the race to compete for
the title with Crg driver. At the finishing line
the lead attained by Bocchi, that in the central
phase of the race amounts to 4 seconds, reduces
to about 5 tenths of a second. Alban Varutti attains
the third step of the podium, preceding Piscopo,
Cuoco and Kimitsakis.
