MIKE WILSON RETURNS TO BIREL

BIREL SPA ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT SIX TIME WORLD KARTING CHAMPION, MIKE WILSON, WILL JOIN THE BIREL MANAGEMENT TEAM WITH PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF BUSINESS AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR BIREL IMPORTERS & DISTRIBUTORS.

Wilson has been residing in Italy for many years after concluding his racing career. Three of Wilson’s six world titles have been aboard a Birel. Up to now, he had his own karting line bearing his own name, “MW”, as well as third party production for other brands such as Fittipaldi kart.

“Mike is a karting legend and we are honored to have him as a part of our company,” said Birel Vice President, Ronni Sala. “Thanks to his vast experience he will be a valuable asset to our clients involved in several national and international championships.”

Over the past five years of business, Wilson had concentrated his activities towards national championships with particular attention to the American market rather than focusing on the international racing scene. Wilson had also developed a strong relationship with current Formula 1 world champion, Fernardo Alonso, who had raced and won aboard Mike Wilson designed karts.

Unfortunately due to rising manufacturing costs combined with the continued world economic downturn, Wilson has decided to focus in a new direction and join Birel management in their head office in Lissone, Italy. Wilson will have the opportunity to share his experience and to return to a more active role in the world of racing.

“I believe the market will be dominated by the better organized larger manufactures in the future, leaving smaller manufactures aside,” said Wilson. “For this reason it is important to have the ability for technological innovation and investment in research. From a business perspective, this strategy will always require more organization and analysis of specific products. This ensures a greater commitment to the servicing of our clients. After evaluating these factors, to join Birel, was a natural choice for me. Objectively speaking, birel is one of the most organized companies where I am able to express the best of my experience and I hope to bring a useful contribution on all sides of the business.”

In the eyes of Birel, the utmost importance has always been placed in giving consumers the best before and after sales service. Wilson will be given the difficult task to develop new markets while also assisting to improve existing ones. His vast experience should provide great support to the Birel Importers / Distributors and on down the line to the customer.

“Mike’s business experience will be useful for Birel to intensify our presence at a world level by promoting our vast product line as well as specific solutions,” continued Ronni Sala. “Our company has always taken pride in our client service and we feel mike will insure a solid and influential support.”

Further, Wilson will be present at several national and international racing events to provide assistance to teams connected with Birel as well as individual drivers.
