PRESENTATION OF THE TEAM BIREL MOTORSPORT 2007

THE OFFICIAL TEAM WILL COMPRISE 8 OFFICIAL DRIVERS WHO, IN THE MOST IMPORTANT RACES, WILL BE JOINED BY TEST DRIVER GIACOMO PATRONO.

In the month of December the last details have been finalised with regards to Birel’s official team line-up for the main International karting events. With regards to the 2006 season, 6 drivers have been confirmed, including Giacomo Patrono who, as well as taking part in the competition programme of the KF2 class, will also act as full-time official tester at the factory of Lissone. In the KZ1 class (formerly Sicc) Francesco Laudato and Manuel Cozzaglio have been confirmed, while Sauro Cesetti will once again be the driver of the KF1 (formerly Formula A). The Gernam driver Marco Wittmann was promoted to the KF1 class after an excellent 2006 season in the 100 Ica. Lastly, Peter Antolfield was also confirmed, who will be engaged in the KF2 after competing in the Junior for two seasons. Among the new additions, always in KF1, in the month of November an agreement had already been announced with Jaime Croxford (who has come from the Birel team – Pf International), whereas in the last few weeks an agreement was also signed with the Japanese driver Hattory. The drivers engaged in the KF1 will therefore be four, who will all take part, for the whole programme, in the Open Championship, the European Championship, the World Cup and the World Championship. There are also some news in KF2 where, alongside Patrono and Antonfield, the new Italian champion of 100 Junior, Mario Turchetto, was also called. The 2007 programme of the official team will not include drivers directly managed in the KF3 category (formerly Junior). To better evaluate the behaviour of the new motorisations, the drivers taking part in the young class par excellence will be managed by external teams. As far as technical staff is concerned, Simone Fumagalli was confirmed manager of the team; from 2007 Fumagalli was also assisted by Mariano De Faveri, who will take on a role of higher responsibility.
