- SELECTIONS FOR THE EUROPEAN 100 ICA - 100 ICA / JUNIOR
CHAMPIONSHIP (CENTRAL AREA).
Fanetti is leading the 100 ICA category, while Tedeschini
comes in second in the Junior one.
This season the Birel Motorsport team is still having
a series of successes in all categories. In Corridonia,
during the qualifying selection for the European 100 Ica
and 100 Ica/Junior Championship, Fanetti was the only
leader of the Ica category, while Filippo Tedeschini approached
the edge of the first position in the Junior category.
This further success in the propaedeutic categories is
another achievement obtained by the couple Birel-Tm during
the FSA World Championship. The title competition in single
trial of the European Final is scheduled for August 24th
and 25th on the racing track in Angerville..

» COMMENTARY ON CORRIDONIA
100 ICA -JUNIOR
The Birel driver Erik Janis is the European Champion in
office to be beaten. Among the favourites there are also
Nico Hulkenberg, leader of the Open Masters Championship,
Marco Mapelli, Matteo Chinosi and David Rotar. But from
the qualifying round Filippo Tedeschini has been the real
surprise during this week end in the Marches. The driver
of the Birel Motorsport team qualifies for the first position
during the Sunday final race with Hulkenberg, driver of
the Crg team. The race starts when the racing track is
still wet and Hulkenberg, who is leading, precedes Tedeschini,
Janis, Erba and Mapelli. But bad luck stops Andrea Todisco.
The very young driver of Latium, departing seventh from
the starting line, has to join the rear of the group because
of a carburettor problem. After the first lap Tedeschini
is leading, outstripping Hulkenberg, and getting gradually
a significant lead over competitors. But the race in Corridonia
is not short of surprises and it rains again before the
end of the competition. And when drivers are on the third
last lap and the racing track is still wet, Todeschini,
after the first sharp turn, is outstripped again by Hulkenberg
who comes in first. However the Birel driver attains a
very good second position, preceding the very capable
driver Erik Janis, Mancinelli, Di Sabatino and Chinosi.
And also the fastest lap of the competition is attained
by the Birel driver Janis, with a very good time of 43''
317, while Marco Mapelli comes in eighth.

ICA
During
the final competition the driver Comer Ricci starts his
race from the pole position, but the Birel driver Michele
Fanetti, who started second, comes in first. Behind them,
Ricci, the good local driver Pizzuti, D'Antuono, Albertini,
Jamrozinski and Cinti are involved in a scrimmage. There
are no doubts on the leadership of Fanetti followed by
Albertini, Tsampras, Ricci and Pizzuti trying to compete
for the podium. Fanetti crosses the finishing line first,
preceding the English driver Tsampras of the Kosmic team,
and another Birel driver, the South African Armani Jamrozinski,
steps on again to the podium, attaining the third position.
Marco Pizzuti could virtually aspire to a position on
the all Birel podium, but during final laps he has to
renounce coming in sixth. Albertini and Ricci come in
respectively fourth and fifth while Mortara, crossing
the finishing line ninth, attains the fastest lap of the
competition. |
