- 2002 CIK-FIA EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Sarno (Italy - Sa) - Laudato
dominates the 2nd trial of the Super ICC European Championship.
Francesco Laudato and the Birel Motorsport team won both
competitions during the second trial of the European Championship,
Formula Super-Icc. The continental title of the top category
of class 125, will be awarded after three trials and,
thanks to his clean performance achieved during the Italian
lap, Laudato will have the opportunity of facing the last
competition scheduled in September in Mariembourg with
the concrete ambition to be successful. Piccini, Forè,
Ryttarbris and Elkmann are the competitors he will have
to beat. The Icc and FA categories underlined Birel colours
as well: Giampaolo Viani (Birel - Tm) won trial 1 in the
Icc category, while Robert Dirks (Birel - Pavesi) came
in first in trial 2. In Formula A Davide Gaggianesi of
the M.G.M. Racing team made a good score, even though
his attainment of the title will be very difficult because
of the double success obtained by the Swiss driver Hutless
Bass Lammers.

FORMULA SUPER ICC
Alessandro Piccini is the leading driver in the results
list after the first trial in Ampfing, while Birel drivers
Laudato and Groppi will have to get good results after
the debacle during the opening competition. The racing
track of Sarno has no secrets for Francesco Laudato and
for this reason his quick recovery is expected. Even Bridgestone
tyres, late in Ampfing, have now a better performance.
As a matter of fact after qualifying rounds both leading
Birel drivers Laudato and Groppi are well placed, getting
respectively the 3rd and 6th position at the starting
grid. Elkmann, Poncelet and Azzolina are also well placed,
giving a confirmation of the Birel frames' competitiveness.
After the first lap already Laudato is at the head of
the competition, dominating this event and also keeping
this position up to the finishing line. Another Birel
driver, Peter Elkmann, comes is second after him, with
a lead of more than 4''. Sauro Cesetti comes in third,
attaining the third step of the podium instead of Davide
Forè. On the contrary Alessandro Piccini, because
of a problem on a tyre, leaves the second position coming
in tenth and scoring only 6 points for the championship.
Ryttarbris comes in sixth, while Poncelet and Azzolina
achieve respectively the eleventh and twelfth position.
Groppi, going off the racing track, has to conclude in
advance his competition. Laudato is at the head of the
competition in trial 2 as well, having the same success
obtained during the first trial. The driver of Salerno
heads Cesetti and Forè, but during the ninth lap
it starts raining on the racing track of Sarno and the
competition is stopped. After the resumption of the competition
Laudato is still leading and at the finishing line he
heads Cesetti and Foré who will also step on to
the podium, completely devoted to the Italian tricolour.
Elkmann comes in fourth before Wouters and Piccini. Groppi,
who is out after the first lap, is still down on his luck
while Azzolina is out after his fourth lap. Piccini is
still leading the Championship but the gap between him
and Laudato is now smaller, amounting only to 7 scores,
and in September the competition will be still heated
on the racing track of Mariembourg.
