Welcome to the official Birel S.p.A. website. In the name of Birel philosophy, which has always been targeted to customer service and technology, we have created a karting portal: the focus is on products, debates with engineers and drivers, reviews of tracks and information on the key issues of our sport. Birel is leader on the web, too.

09/08/2002 - QUINTARELLI LONE LEADER OF THE DRIVER RESULTS LIST ONCE AGAIN

In race 1 Ardigò experiences some set-up problems and, after having attained two successful rounds out of three, unfortunately he can not do the same during the final. At the finishing line he places himself in the third position, headed by Foré, who is in top form, and by Carlo Van Dam attaining the fastest lap as well. Quintarelli, headed by his rival driver Van der Garde, experiences some problems due to the wet racing track as well. Laurent Groppi, who ran a good race on the home racing track, places himself in the 6th position. Manetti, Ammermuller, Cesetti and Burton place themselves among the top ten drivers at the end of the race. Gianluca Beggio and Marco Asmer, who do not finish their race, are not among top drivers.

At the beginning of the second competition the racing track is still wet, but it does not rain any longer. However all drivers start the race using rain tyres. Ardigò leads the competition, while Quintarelli is almost hit by Manetti, taking the first bend at high speed from behind the lines and so he has to follow an outer route loosing many positions. After the first lap he places himself in the tenth position and straightaway he starts making up ground in order to reach a top position, constantly attaining fastest times compared to the leading drivers. In the meantime Ardigò leads the race, heading Forè and Van der Garde. Quintarelli succeeds in coming close to the leading drivers, while the French driver Groppi, who attained a very good sixth position, has to leave the race because of a break in the chain. When there are still six laps to go to the end of the race, Marco Ardigò is dogged by misfortune and the engine breaks down. So Forè leads the competition, but he is tailed by Quintarelli: the latter outstrips Van der Garde and when there are still five laps to go to the end of the race he succeeds in outstripping him too. So the Birel driver from Veneto attains his third seasonal success. Forè comes in second, heading Van der Garde and Van Dam. Cesetti places himself in the 5th position, heading in his turn Bakker and Niogret. Quintarelli attains a seven points lead over Van der Garde and they could prove to be decisive during the two final competitions in Muro Leccese. The Birel team is still leading the manufacturer result list as well.
