In Belgium Giampaolo Viani is the leading driver of the
results list and he is determined to attain the title.
But in Mariembourg the Emilian driver has the excellent
Dirks to reckon with, because the latter takes the couple
Birel - Pavesi to the leading position both on the wet
and on the dry track. As a matter of fact, at the starting
line the Dutch driver sprints from the first row with
Smets, while Viani places himself only in the 6th position.
The Italian drivers Profico and Tonoli, who played very
good rounds, start from the second row. Dirks takes the
lead for whole race, having a 10" lead on Haegermark,
who comes in second. Viani, always ready to compete for
the title, places himself in the third position, while
Eyckmans comes in fourth.

Dirks dominates the second final as well and for Viani,
who places himself in the third position, the prospects
of success vanish. As a matter of fact the Italian driver,
despite his higher score compared to the rival, has to
reject 8 points, giving finally 9 points to the new European
Champion of the Icc class. In race two Lavanat attains
the third position, stepping on to a podium completely
dominated by Birel drivers. On the contrary the Italian
driver Profico, who comes in fifth during the final, attains
the third position in the Championship.

During the first final one unexpected event occurs at
the starting line. Lammers, who dominated the finals run
in Sarno, can't start because of a technical problem.
De Brujin, Rohner and Wassermann place themselves in the
first positions, heading Davide Gaggianesi. The driver
of the Birel Mgm team, who made a good performance on
the dry track during the rounds, has some problems due
to his tyres and he can't finish the race. On the contrary
Salvatore Gatto recovers very well and, after his repechage,
he places himself in the 9th position during the Final.
In the meantime the rain favours the outsiders and during
the Belgian competition the German driver Hemkemeyer emerges,
heading at the finishing line De Brujin and D'Ambrosio,
leading driver of the Birel team.

The second final is the repeat of the first one: Hemkemeyer
wins the competition with a 4" lead on Abreu, and
he becomes the European champion of Formula A. For the
whole season this category has never had a true leader
and during the last competition the rain played a considerable
role, having an influence on the real performance on the
racing track. Davide Gaggianesi proved to be one of the
most qualified drivers for the title, but the existing
gap between his tyres and Bridgestone's was disarming
in Belgium. For the same reason even the only woman driver
was absent: Cyndi Allemann. The Swiss woman driver of
the Crg team was for sure in the right condition to make
a good race, but her less effective rain tyres proved
a decisive factor. The German driver Sanden attains the
second position in the championship, while Abreu comes
in third. Davide Gaggianesi is down on his luck, placing
himself only in the 6th position and the new European
champion outdistances him with 19 points.
