which has always been targeted to customer service and technology,
we have created a karting portal: the focus is on products,
debates with engineers and drivers, reviews of tracks and information
on the key issues of our sport. Birel is leader on the web,

CIK-FIA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FSA
QUINTARELLI
IS VICE WORLD CHAMPION
After four trials at the top of the world cycling
results list Ronnie Quintarelli and the Birel team lose
by a hair's breadth the title in the FSA World Championship.
As a partial consolation, the Birel colours dominate the
World Cup in the FA, attaining the whole podium with the
Belgian D'Ambrosio and the Italian drivers Gaggianesi
and Gatto.
The very good season performed by the Birel team and by
Ronnie Quintarelli in the World Championship had a bitter
conclusion. The Birel colours, which had been at the top
of the manufacturer and driver results list since the
second world cycling race run in Finland, could not give
concrete form to their leadership in Muro Leccese. The
very good Giedo Van der Garde was the main obstacle on
their way: the Dutch driver won both finals, attaining
the title of World Champion and recovering the seven points
behind he scored before the race. On the contrary Ronnie
Quintarelli, after his very good qualifying rounds, marking
without problems his direct opponent, broke the engine
in the first final and in the second trial he had to be
satisfied with the third position on the podium. The race
of the World Championship of Formula A was run on the
racing track of Muro Leccese as well, where the Birel
colours rallied partially attaining an overwhelming victory
with the Belgian driver D'Ambrosio.

REPORT OF THE RACES
»
FORMULA SUPER A
Formula Super A is the most awaited appointment
during the weekend on the wonderful racing track
of Muro Leccese. This Italian trial is the fifth
and last stage of a season where the rivals competing
for the title were Ronnie Quintarelli and the
Dutch driver of the CRG team Giedo Van der Garde.
But Davide Forè of the Tony Kart team and
Carlo Van Dam of the Trulli Kart team can still
mathematically compete for the title as well.
The first important appointment of the weekend
is the session of qualifying trials, in which
Davide Forè excels. The driver of the Tony
Kart team attains his pole position for qualifying
rounds, heading Cesetti, Van Dam, Van der Garde
and Quintarelli. Marco Ardigò of the Birel
Motorsport team sprints from the sixth row, while
some set-up problems relegate the French driver
Groppi and Beggio respectively to the 19th and
21st position. Davide Foré dominates the
qualifying rounds, winning all three scheduled
trials. After having attained two second positions
and one third position, Sauro Cesetti of the Kosmic
team places himself in the first row as well.
Van Dam, Van der Garde and Quintarelli obtain
very good results in qualifying rounds as well,
placing themselves at the starting grid respectively
in the third, fourth and fifth position for the
two scheduled finals. Alessandro Manetti, who
is the potential outsider of the race and the
only one equipped with Donlop tyres among "big"
drivers, places himself in the sixth position
while Ardigò sprints from the 16th position
and is headed by Laurent Groppi, who attains the
15th position.
Gianluca Beggio had better forget the qualifying
rounds due to his technical problems and so he
has to be satisfied with the 24th position at
the starting grid.
FINAL 1 - FORMULA SUPER A
There is great tension at the starting grid of
the first final: in practice Van der Garde and
Quintarelli sprint paired and because of their
7-point lead in the results list both of them
cannot make many plans. They must both head their
direct opponent and attain the best possible position
at the finishing line as well. At the starting
grid Forè is not taken by surprise, heading
Cesetti and Van Dam. Van der Garde places himself
in the 4th position, heading his direct opponent
Quintarelli and also Manetti and Maldonado. At
the end of the first lap Quintarelli outstrips
Van der Garde, but the Dutch driver recovers his
position after the next lap. In the meantime it
seems Forè and Cesetti, who are both leading,
are not able to proceed, suffering much more than
during qualifying rounds. A close foursome is
now leading and the Dutch Van der Garde, who seems
the most qualified driver, can shortly attain
the leading position during the race. On the contrary,
due to a drop in the engine, Quintarelli has to
give way to the German Ammermuller as well, and
he is finally forced to withdraw two laps before
the end of the competition: for the driver from
Veneto the chances of success in the championship
have almost come to nothing following the engine
failure. As a matter of fact Van der Garde defends
himself against the final attacks of Van Dam and
he is the winner of the race, placing himself
at the top of the results list with his 18-point
lead over Quintarelli. Davide Forè attains
the third step of the podium, while at the end
of the competition Michael Ammermuller comes in
fourth. Marco Ardigò, who runs a wonderful
race, finally attains the 5th position, heading
Maldonado, Asmer and Groppi. On the contrary Gianluca
Beggio has to withdraw from the competition, as
well as Hanley and Cesetti.
