02/01-02/2003 - CONSTRUCTORS' CUP
- THE BIREL TEAM WINS IN SARNO,
The Birel Motorsport Team, attains the first
international competition of the season on the racing
track of Sarno, winning three admitted categories out
of four.
On February 2nd, on Sunday last, the first important
competition of the season was run on the racing track
of Sarno: the Manufacturers’ Cup. The competition
was disputed according to the International Regulation
and over 150 drivers coming from about 10 different
countries attended the race. But, according to the organizers’
will, Manufacturers were the true protagonists of this
event, which competed for the Trophy under the placings
obtained in the 4 admitted categories (Ica/Junior, Ica,
Fa and Icc). All manufacturers, with the only exception
of the Tony Kart team, took part to the competition
aiming at trying materials selected for the year 2003
and at the same time at putting new drivers to the test..

And
the Birel colours prevailed definitely over the
others, attaining 3 wins in 4 Finals. The Birel
team, which missed only the category 100 Ica/Junior,
prevailed in the 100 Ica thanks to Andrea Todisco,
while Salvatore Gatto and Francesco Laudato were
respectively successful in the 100 Fa and in the
125 Icc categories. The young driver Risitano made
his debut very well in the Birel Motorsport team
but unluckily during the Final, when he was among
the leading drivers, he was stopped by the Race
Direction because of the detachment of a part of
his rear bumper and so Andrea Buemi, the European
Champion in office, attained the first position.
The frames adopted by all Birel drivers during this
competition belonged to the latest homologation
and they immediately proved their significant competitiveness.
