Welcome
to the official Birel S.p.A. website. In the name of Birel philosophy,
which has always been targeted to customer service and technology,
we have created a karting portal: the focus is on products,
debates with engineers and drivers, reviews of tracks and information
on the key issues of our sport. Birel is leader on the web,
too. |

02/03/2003 - 2003 OPEN MASTERS - MURO LECCESE - LAUDATO
DOMINATES THE 125 ICC CATEGORY
THE DRIVER FROM CAVA DEI TIRRENI AND THE COMBINATION
BIREL – TM WIN THE VICTORY IN THE 125 ICC CATEGORY.
THE DRIVER RENAUDIE IS SUCCESSFUL IN THE 1000 CLASS,
OAKES DOMINATES THE ICA CATEGORY, WHILE BUEMI IS THE
WINNER OF THE ICA JUNIOR CATEGORY
The season 2003 of the Italian Open Championship starts
from the wonderful racing track of Muro Leccese, which
represents the most important test-bed both for manufacturers
and drivers in expectation of the international competitions.
And the Birel colours draw attention to themselves once
again, maintaining the very good competitive standards
obtained during the Manufacturers Cup run in Sarno.
In the 125 Icc category the European Champion in office
Francesco Laudato has no rivals to compete with, and
the Birel drivers run very good races in the other three
categories involved as well (that is FA – ICA
– ICA Junior), even though none of them is successful.
» 100 ICA JUNIOR
Nicola Nolè dominates the qualifying rounds,
taking its go-kart Birel – Tm to the pole position.
The race direction is forced to stop the competition
because of a multiple collision occurred in the middle
of the group just after the beginning of the race. After
the second starting signal the Birel driver is at the
head of the group but unluckily, even though he seems
to be very close to the first important success of his
career, he is slowed down by some technical problems
during the final laps, and at the end he places himself
in the 4th position. Buemi, heading both Mancinelli
and Panciatici, is the winner of the race.

100 ICA
The final race of the 100 ICA category is not characterized
by great emotions and the English driver Oliver
Oakes is leading just after the second lap, overtaking
Maurizio Nasca. Oakes remains always at the head
of the group, while in the competition for the second
position the Danish driver Nikolai Bollingtoft prevails
over the very good Birel driver Filippo Tedeschini,
stealing his position just during the final lap.
The other English driver Bradley Ellis runs a good
race as well and he comes in fourth after having
made up for his seventh position

» 125 ICC
Francesco Laudato is unbeatable in the 125 Icc category.
He dominates the qualifying rounds and he attains
a remarkable success, remaining always at the head
of the group during all 20 laps of the race. As
already happened in Sarno during the Manufacturers
Cup, Alessandro Sferrella places himself behind
him, while another Birel driver, Manuel Cozzaglio,
attains the third position of the podium.

» FORMULA A
Davide Forè, sprinting from the pole position
during the final FA competition, is finally stopped
by an engine problem, after having dominated the first
two laps. So the French driver Romain Renaudie gets
the leadership, even though it is not easy for him to
attain the first position. The drivers causing him some
troubles are in particular Carlo Van Dam and Sauro Cesetti,
who place themselves respectively in the second and
in the third position. Michele Fanetti, even though
he always remains very close to the leading drivers,
comes in only tenth due to some set-up problems. So
the first Birel driver is Marco Rohner, attaining the
fifth position behind Pineiro, while Salvatore Gatto
is forced to withdraw from the race because of a technical
problem.
