37TH TOURNAMENT OF INDUSTRIES PARMA, 5TH – 6TH – 7TH OCTOBER

BIREL JUST A STEP AWAY FROM A GRAND SLAM

HAVING WON IN TWO CATEGORIES OUT OF 4 (KZ2 WITH MICH AND KF2 WITH LIBOR), BIREL GOT WITHIN A HAIR’S BREATH OF WINNING KF3 AND 60 MINI TOO.

Parma – The first race of the prestigious Tournament of Industries held in Parma last weekend saw Birel’s colours achieving a series of victories and great placements. Over 200 drivers from 30 different countries took part in the event organised by the well-known Emilian track. Among these Birel’s drivers stood out in all 4 categories: 60 Mini, KF3, KF2 and KZ2. In the KF3 and KF2 international categories in particular, the podium was nearly dominated by the colour red. In KF3 Viganò, Ceccon and Coleselli had taken the lead but the impetuosity which characterises the very young caused a collision between Ceccon and Viganò which delayed the first and obliged Viganò to withdraw. Coleselli could have won but the KSB driver got a cold shower after the race: because of a collision during the last lap he was in fact penalised of 10” and therefore had to step down from the highest step of the podium and retreat to 12th place. Ceccon (Gandolfi team) therefore pulled back in the tables thanks to a great 2nd place just behind the British driver Mackenzie. Vainio climbed the 3rd step of the podium, whereas for Birel Agostini ended in 9th place. The KF2 on the other hand was dominated by Toman Libor (New Team) who, after gaining the pole position and winning both legs, went on to win the Final 5” ahead of the second, another Birel driver, Maring Burkhard of the KSB team. Birel could have conquered 3rd place too but while in 3rd position, Paolo De Conto got caught in a collision and had to retreat behind the 10th position. The Italian driver then managed to climb back ending in 7th place, whereas Tornusciolo ended in 3rd place in front of Tiene and Dixon. Basz (Birel - Mgm) also had a positive race ending in 8th place. In KZ2 Thomas Minch had no competition, as he conquered the pole position, victory in both legs and a great success in the final by preceding fellow countryman Renaudie (Pcr) by 2”. Neri arrived 3rd, Flavio Sani – another Birel driver – fourth. Martin Frasnelli also had a positive result crossing the finishing line in 6th place. The Italian-Polish driver Dalewski (Birel –Mgm) also stood out when he conquered the pole position and then went on to fight for victory till the end, when he was put out of the race by a contact. The race was then won by Piero Partigianoni. The 2nd and final race of the Tournament will be held next weekend.
