6TH
INTERNATIONAL EASYKART FINALS CERVIA (RA), OCTOBER 19 - 21,
2007
MORE THAN
300 DRIVERS FIRE UP A HISTORIC EDITION OF THE EASYKART FINALS
INTERNATIONAL TITLES
GIVEN TO ITALIANS CUNATI AND RUGGERI IN THE 60cc AND 125 LIGHT,
RESPECTIVELY, WHILE ENGLISH DRIVER PITTINGALE WINS IN THE
HEAVY, AND CZECH HAJEC WINS IN THE SHIFTER. THE 100cc CLASS
RESULTS, HOWEVER, ARE UNDER INVESTIGATION AFTER AN EXCITING
DUEL BETWEEN VIBERTI AND BEMBIC.
Three hundred forty
experienced drivers from 20 different nations emphasize better
than anyone, the success of the 6th edition of the Easykart
Finals.
Thanks to the constant,
growing success abroad (as well as in Italy) of the brand
promoted by Birel, starting next year they will have to hold
the Italian and international championships in two separate
events.
Therefore in Cervia the international and national titles
were awarded at the same event for the last time, a ranking
reserved for drivers with an Italian license being drafted
on the sidelines.
The success of the event was also helped by the excellent
organization of Birel and the Italian Karting Federation;
the broadcasting of the races, standings and pilot interviews
"live" on a giant television screen, the great hospitality
for teams and drivers with the help of sponsors Beretta, and
the professionalism of the Autodromo di Monza staff, were
all much appreciated.
The high public turnout was a success, as well as the presence
of more than 30 accredited newspapers from 13 different nations.
There were also some private Italian television companies,
the primary Polish sports channel, and Russia's public television
company.
Among the most exciting moments in the event, was the presentation
of the drivers with the national anthem being played live
by the band of the Municipality of Cervia.
Regarding sports, the Italians dominated the 60cc youth class,
which saw teammates (Lampo) Cunati and Rinaldi racing in the
final lap: Cunati won by just 170 thousandths, taking the
international title, the national going to Arone.
Lavelli took 3rd place on the podium, among the big winners
once again after taking 2nd place last year, while Mattia
Drudi and Andrea Scalzotto were in 4th and 5th place, respectively.
Russian Schwartzman had finished at 4th place, but because
of the 10" early departure penalty, he was relegated
to 6th place before Pastorok and Clarissa Mosca.
In Finals "D", "C" and "B",
the victories went respectively to Ivan Kroguv (Russia), Juan
Pablo Fejio (Columbia), and Giulio Tommassin (Italy).
In the 100cc, the public witnessed one of the most exciting
races of the day: poleman Viberti alternated the lead with
Slovenian Bembic until the final lap, when just before the
finish line in the decisive attack, Viberti lost his front
spoiler, finishing behind his opponent by just thousandths.
He was underweight arriving without the spoiler, but has appealed
for an exception because he only went thirty meters without
it.
But the mystery of the race deepened with protests from technical
commissioners about a particular technical detail of Bembic's
engine; the Slovenian has also appealed, and ranking has been
frozen until the TNA (National Court of Appeals in Rome) decides
on the matter.
The victory, if
both are excluded from the race, will be passed to Arone,
who finished in 3rd place. The Venetian driver, world champion
in the 60cc, outranked the Columbian Oscar Tunjio, Czech Jan
Midrla and Italian Filippo Bellini.
In Finals "C" and "B" however, success
belonged to Polish driver Jan Kisiel and Emanuele Zonzini
of San Marino. There was also some mystery in the 125 Light
final, where the winner, Alessando Ruggeri had a penalty of
10" for early departure (with subsequent demotion to
6th place) and was then annulled by the Sporting Commission
after images of the race were reviewed on television.
The driver of team
Fm won the international and national championships, ahead
of the Cypriot driver Ozteknik and Corradini.
Also excellent
in 4th place was Giuseppe Ferro who won the pole in the qualifier,
as well as teammates (Av Racing) Bussone and Bodrero, in 5th
and 6th place. In the "B" Final, after the exclusion
of Juan Sebastian Arenas (non-compliant cylinder), the success
went to Ghezzi, while Russian Sidorov took victory in the
"C" Final.
The 125 Heavy was tinted with English colours however: Pittingale,
in fact, beat Cockhill to the finish. Italian driver Collini
took 3rd place after winning the national laurel. The following
results were classified - Edward Cockhill, Daniele Mercatelli
and Maurizio Zani. Meanwhile in the "B" Final, it
was the Russian Anufriev who overtook American driver Thompson.
In the 125 Shifter,
Italian driver Schirosi, starting with the pole, resisted
the attacks of Czech expert Hajec for more than half the race,
but then surrendered to his opponent, finishing in 2nd place.
In 3rd place was Italian driver Regini, ahead of Polish driver
Fuchs and the other Italian Regini.
We should emphasize the great success of category 50 Training,
which has played two demonstrative rounds with 35 drivers
with 6 to 9 years on the track.
