2005 FORMULA A -WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP - BRAGA (PORTUGAL) –23RD/24TH/25TH
OF SEPTEMBER
THE QUALIFIERS:
CESETTI UNLUCKY, CHRISTODOULOU RIGHT TO THE TOP.
For the qualifiers, the 73
registered drivers were divided into three groups, each of
which was to run two sessions. The first variables, those
able to affect the work of an entire weekend and also the
final result of the race, came into play right away. The whole
first session was run on a wet track and Cesetti was among
those heavily penalized by this unpredictable factor. The
Marches-born driver also reported a technical problem in the
second session, beginning his weekend in the worst of ways:
at the end of the two sessions he ranked only 41st. These
are the “famous” factors that can penalize or
help drivers during a World Cup run in a single race. Antonucci
and newcomer Risitano suffered similar fates, both ending
behind Cesetti in the qualifiers. Among the best-performing
Birel drivers, instead, Christodoulou (4th time), Litchfield
(6th time) and Lancaster (8th time). The pole position went
to Thonon, in front of Ardigò and Mortara. Among the
top ten there were also Molina (5th), Bollingoft (7th), Waldschmidt
(9th) and Kozlinski (10th). 2004 title holder Davide Forè
had some troubles, qualifying only 23rd; Gary Catt (who watched
his former teammate Litchfield shine brightly) ended only
28th and coming back Manetti even 53rd.
