THE PRE-FINAL: ARDIGÒ WINS, CHOOSING TO USE 2 NEW TYRES

The Pre-Final determines the starting grid for the race and therefore is not decisive. The aim of all the drivers is to end among the top ten, trying to save the best engine and the tyres for the race that will award the title. This philosophy was adopted by all of the Birel drivers, with the only exception of Christodoulou, who was forced to use the only engine he had left. The Tony kart drivers decided to use two new tyres, seizing the first three positions thanks to this advantage. Victory went to Ardigò, in front of Mortara and Forè. Christodoulou was the first among the qualified drivers with used tyres and was able to use four new tyres in the conclusive race. However, the Birel driver in the last laps reported problems to the engine which did not compromise his race, but were a source of worries in view of the Final. Behind the Englishman arrived Litchfield, still doing very well. The 6th place went to Oakes, ahead of Thonon and Koslinski. Lancaster ended 9th, choosing not to attack Koslinski in order to take advantage of the better (internal) position on the starting grid. Waldschmidt, Jimenez and Ploman were at this point basically out of the competition for the World Cup, as they were forced to withdraw, while Cesetti was once more unlucky and did not make it beyond the 17th place owing to several problems.
