2ND CHAMPIONS CUP - ROME, NOVEMBER 1ST, 2005
CESETTI’S
SHOW IN FORMULA A
THE MARCHES-BORN DRIVER
AROUSES THE ENTHUSIASM OF THE LARGE AUDIENCE ATTENDING WITH
AN EXCITING VICTORY AND A FINAL SHOW ON THE PODIUM. BIREL
COLOURS STAND OUT ALSO IN THE ICC WITH A SUPERB TRIPLE HIT:
IPPOLITI WINS AHEAD OF FRASSINETTI AND LAUDATO.
The 2nd edition of the Champions
Cup run through the streets of the EUR district in Rome offered
a great karting performance. This race, introduced last year
also thanks to the spur given by the main karting manufacturers,
aims at the promotion of karting through an event that brings
this fascinating discipline (and its main protagonists) closer
to the public in strategic urban realities. Various problems
related to racing calendars and international rendez vous
caused some of the leading team names to be absent, but the
show offered to an audience of approximately 5000 spectators
was nevertheless of an excellent level. The race was also
extensively covered by broadcasting networks. As far as the
competitions are concerned, the races included the 4 Cik classes:
Ica/junior, Ica, Fa and Icc. Birel was present in all the
categories, even if the greatest satisfactions resulted mainly
from the top classes - the FA and the Icc. Sauro Cesetti played
the leading role in Formula A, where he conquered the pole
and a shining victory in the Finals, after having had some
troubles in the pre-finals, which relegated him to the 4th
position. The Marches-born driver made an excellent start
that brought him immediately to the 2nd position behind Tassi.
After having put Tassi under pressure for a few laps, Cesetti
launched his attack against the Tony Kart driver along the
mixed stretch before the pits; he managed then to keep the
lead throughout the rest of the race crossing the finishing
line first, 2” ahead of his rival. To crown it all,
the 3rd place was won by Nicholas Risitano. Once on the podium,
Sauro Cesetti elated the crowd with a widely appreciated launching
of caps, gloves and gadgets. Another victory to be highlighted
is that of the 125 Icc, where excellent Fausto Ippoliti climbed
the top step, while the 2nd and 3rd placements went to Frassinetti
and 2005 World Champion Laudato, respectively. In the Junior
class, pole man Antolfeld (of the Birel Motorsport team) sent
his kart into a spin while struggling for the victory, which
was then conquered by Englishman Scott Jenkins. Italian Smarrazzo
finished his race 2nd, while Finn Heikken climbed the 3rd
podium step. Will Stevens, new Birel’s team member and
a promising driver of the English karting, ended his race
4th after a long fight for the podium. In the 100 Ica, instead,
the victory went to Italian Cinti, who won ahead of Zampieri
and Orlandi. The next appointment with International karting
is scheduled on November 19th, when the Formula A will compete
in Suzuka, Japan, for the prestigious Cik-Fia Asia/Pacific
title.
