GERMAN KARTING CHAMPIONSHIP
FULL HOUSE
IN THE GERMAN KARTING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT OSCHERSLEBEN
The German Karting Championship
2006 started its season April 17th on the eastern track of
Oschersleben. On the grid the German Karting Championship
(Formula A and ICA), the German Junior Karting Championship
(ICA Juniors), the German Karting Challenge (ICC) and the
ICA Karting Cup (ICA) were ready to go. With about 170 participants
all told the organisers were close to set a new record.
German
Karting Challenge (ICC)
In timed practice it was David Sigacev (CRG) setting the pace,
but throughout the Heats Pascal Fritzsche (Birel, Team Solgat)
took pole-position. But during the sprint race he had to leave
the lead and also the victory to his teammate Marcel Jeleniowski.
He took advantage of the rainy circumstances and won the race
easily. For final the track was dry and once again it was
Jeleniowski heading away. He finally feathered his nest when
chaser Roland Ecker got off the track. Behind Jeleniowski,
Birel dominated the first ranks with Petr Klobas, Pascal Fritzsche,
Maik Kraske, Marcel Mahr-Graulich and Kai Boller.
ICA Karting
Cup (ICA)
Michal Slomian (Intrepid) and Stef Dusseldorp (CRG) shared
the two race wins of the ICA Karting Cup. In the first race
Slomian saw chequered flag as winner, followed by Claudio
Mack on Birel. The latter surely would have had a good chance
for win in race two but had to give up in the very first lap
after spinning. So the race was determined by Slomian and
Dusseldorp whereat the dutchman was the lucky one in finish.
Best Birel driver was Mike Knoblau (Siemens Motorsport) reaching
position four.
German
Junior Karting Championship (ICA Juniors)
The junior races were far away from being boring. Changing
weather, full grids of 51 pilots and several crashes caused
a stir. But this did not bother dutchman Rudy van Buren. He
showed a brilliant performance and took both wins in sprint
and final! In sprint race Jack Te Braak (Zanardi) and Ricardo
Brutschin (Team Solgat, Birel) completed the top three. In
final it was again Jack Te Braak on rank two, while Andre
Hauke (CRG) took step on podium with position three.
German
Karting Championship (Formula A and ICA)
Germany’s top category was dominated by Robert Schlünssen
(Mach 1) in sprint race. He drove a single race far away from
his chasers. But behind him it was Birel’s manufacturer
driver Marco Wittmann starting third and finally taking rank
three. In final the race became a duel between Schlünssen
and Wittmann. The Birel driver followed Schlünssen like
a shadow throughout the whole race. During the last five laps
the decision was brought about by lapping drivers. Wittmann
took his chance and passed the slower pilots quicker than
Schlünssen and in doing so finally was rewarded with
the victory.
