EUROPEAN QUALIFIERS 100 ICA/J AND ICA
RISITANO PREVAILS IN VALVIBRATA
THE
LATIUM-BORN DRIVER WINS IN BOTH FINALS OF 100 ICA. EASY QUALIFICATION
ALSO FOR THE OTHER BIREL TOP DRIVERS IN THE JUNIOR AND IN
THE ICA CLASS.
The weekend of
the qualifying races for the European Championship of 100
Ica and 100 Junior saw all the top Birel drivers qualify for
the Finals in Braga (100 Ica) and Mariembourg (100 Junior).
The preliminary races took place in three different countries,
where the various candidates faced each other based on their
nationalities. Eastern European drivers met in Italy on the
Valvibrata circuit. The selections for Western Europe took
place in Lavelanet, in France, whereas candidates from Central
Europe faced each other near the mythical circuit of Spa –
Francorchamps, also equipped with a superb karting track.
As expected, Risitano went smoothly in Italy, thus running
as a super-favourite also for the finals to be held in Portugal.
The Latium-born driver won both the Finals after having dominated
the time trials as well as the qualifiers. In Valvibrata,
Pizzuti, Boller, Bosca and Landmann stood out among the Birel
drivers in the 100 Ica. In the Junior class, won by Eng, Kronenberger
and Burkhard qualified with great performances. Coletti, on
the other hand, was the big favourite at the selections that
took place in France, where he proved to be among the most
competitive drivers, qualifying thanks to two second places.
Among others, also Alguersauri (5th-14th), Tardieu (6th-8th),
Pic (11th-7th) and Campos (13th-9th) succeeded in qualifying
in Lavelanet. Victories, however, were gained by Lee Bell
in race 1 and Bianchi in race 2. In the 100 Ica, the best
Birel driver was Patrice Mich, but Jon Lancaster, the favourite
new entry of the English karting world, qualified as well.
The performances of Birel-Gks drivers Vanthoorr and Dreezen
at the selections that took place in Belgium were particularly
noteworthy, too. Great results also in the ICA with Atte Mustonen
who has dominated the scene.
