ALL TOP
BIREL DRIVERS HAVE QUALIFIED
THE OFFICIAL DRIVERS
ANTONFELD (JUNIOR) AND WITTMANN (ICA) HAVE BOTH QUALIFIED,
AND WITH THEM ALSO ALL THE BIG NAMES OF BIREL’S JUNIOR
TEAM.
Three different
races in three different parts of Europe have determined those
drivers who have qualified for the Finals of the European
Championship in the categories Ica and Ica/Junior, which will
be held at Ampfing on 20th August and at Mariembours on 3rd
September.
The venues
chosen by the International Federation were Sarno for the
eastern zone, Thy in Denmark for the northern zone and Braga
in Portugal for the western zone. Birel’s official drivers,
Peret Antonfeld (Junior) and Marco Wittmann, played the leading
roles in the race at Sarno, both obtaining qualification.
In the Junior
category, as well as Antonfeld (absolute 4th thanks to a 5th
place in Race 1 and a 4th place in race 2), Viganò
of the Mgm team also qualified with a great absolute 5th place,
as well as Birizdo and Basz. Tiene, Toman and Camponeschi
ended the race in the first 3 places.
In the Ica
selection, which took place on the track in Campania, Birel’s
colours were once again successful thanks to Giacomo Patrono
(new Italian champion of this category) who qualified with
an absolute 9th place, and Wittmann with 12th place.
The German
driver obtained his qualification thanks to a smashing Race
2, in which he ended in 4th place after having broken his
engine in Race 1 (during which he was obliged to start in
30th position).
Nolè
and Giacomello conquered the first 2 places in the Finals,
winning one race each. As far as Birel is concerned, Burkahard
and Knoblau also qualified. At Thy, in Denmark, Reinberth,
De Ridder and Kevin Magnussen – son of the former Formula
1 driver – qualified for the Lissone company in the
Junior.
Top weekend
performances were given by Lappi, De Bradander and Wennersson.
In the Ica, the representative of Birel-Gks, Laurens Vanthoor,
gave a great performance conquering 6th place thanks to his
10th position in Race 1 and 6th position in Race 2.
Kunranta
also figured among the top ten, whereas Sarensen qualified
with an 18th place. Sami Luka and Dreezen won the first 2
places. At Braga, in the Ica, Millroy ended absolute 2nd,
the French Santamato was 7th and Truoleve 21st.
Thanks to
two victories, Abbasse gained 1st place. The placings for
Race 2 in the Junior have not been confirmed yet, so the final
results have yet to be made known.
