CIK - FIA WORLD KARTING CHAMPIONSHIP
4 DRIVERS
DISQUALIFIED (INCLUDING ANTONIUCCI), THE WORLD TABLES CHANGE
THE FEDERATION INTERVENES FOLLOWING
HEATED POST-RACE DISPUTES. AS WELL AS THE WINNER, THONON,
CHRISTODOULO AND BOTTAS ARE ALSO EXCLUDED. CESETTI CLIMBS
TO 3RD PLACE.
After having examined the numerous
pictures taken of the starting grid, which clearly highlighted
an intervention on the gears and other technical details carried
out on the karts of the winner Antonucci and other participants,
the International Federation intervened by disqualifying from
the tables Antonucci himself, as well as Thonon (3°),
Christodoulo and Bottas. According to the dispositions in
case of rain (which started to fall a few minutes before the
start), any intervention on the gears and on any other part
of the karts (rods, filter, etc.), with the exclusion of ruts
and rain tyres, was absolutely forbidden. This provision restores
the credibility in the tables which, having being strongly
influenced by the above-mentioned interventions, did not reflect
the actual values. Davide Forè therefore becomes the
new world champion and, above all, as far as Birel is concerned
4 drivers crossed the finishing line among the first 10 (thus
making Birel the most represented car-makers among the top
ten, as well as among the finalists). Sauro Cesetti climbed
on the world championship podium in 3rd position, whereas
Croxford (newly acquired by Birel’s official team),
conquered 6th place. Lancaster and Curridor concluded the
race in 8th and 9th place respectively.
