2007 ROTAX EURO CHALLENGE
BIREL
WINS THE DD2 WITH POULTER
ALSO SIMPSON IN THE ROTAX MAX AMONG THE PROTAGONISTS
The track at Salbris in France hosted the 1st round of the
European series of Rotax one brand. The flow of the pilots
and the competitiveness of the competitions have set the event
among the most interesting of the continental karting branch
and, really for these motives, the Birel has chosen to be
present to every event in official way with its own representative
Mike Wilson. The ex champion will be the coordinator of all
the initiatives that will be promoted during the season and
he will support all the teams and Birel pilots about the technical
point of view. The objective is both to guarantee a concrete
support and service to Birel clients, but also to widen the
Birel presence considering possible collaborations with other
teams and pilots. From the sporting point of view, the 1st
of the 4 continental scheduled appointments, it has set immediately
in great evidence the Birel pilots. Particularly the South
African Leroy Poulter got the honors of the chronicles winning
the class DD2 with authority. The representative of the team
Kalman has preceded of over 7" Riche and Kroes.
Also Michael Simpson was favourite in the Max Senior class,
but the English has paid the price with an impetuousness manouvre
with an adversary in the first phases of the race ending his
chances of victory. Though nursing a bent frame he went from
the back of the field to the front pack finishing in 6th place
and only 1"471 secs from the winner Cooper. For the continuation
of the season he will be however one of the principals candidates
to the title, as Mike Wilson also underlines:
" Simpson has only paid some impetuousness, but success
was fully to his capacity. he drives very well and with our
chassis he has immediately found a good feeling. Poulter has
also impressed me and, with every probability, he would also
be right using a 125 with traditional change: it is not excluded
that short-term he can sustain a test. But, beyond of our
pilots, I saw some beautiful competitions and a very high
level of the pilots in all classes. We have a lot of ideas
to increase our presence in this series and we will probably
appraise the possibility to sustain someone of the most interesting
young people. Here in Salbris I have already talked to many
teams finding a beautiful environment. In this sense, we are
also appraising the possibility to enter in this Trophy with
Monza mark, appraising which structure can be fitter for this
eventuality."
