OVER 140 DRIVERS HEADING FOR THE GERMAN KARTING CHAMPIONSHIPS AT THE OPENING ROUND AT OSCHERSLEBEN

The German Karting Championship 2007 started its season April 15th on the eastern track of Oschersleben. On the grid the German Karting Championship (KF1), the German Junior Karting Championship (KF3), the German Gearbox Karting Championship (KZ2), the new German Challenger Karting Championship (KF2) and the ICA Karting Cup (ICA) were ready to go. Although all categories, excluding the KZ2, underwent technical changes in the engine sector, the organisers welcomed full grids with over 140 pilots.

KF1
The top category was domianted by Gillard-pilots Michael Sedlmeyr and his teammate and current champion Michael Christensen. While in sprint race guest-starter Sedlmeyr took the win, Christensen faught back in final, taking victory and championship lead. Best Birel-driver was Burkahrd Maring (KSB Racing). He took pole-position in qualifying, won one heat and took starting rank three befor sprint race. But then luck was not on his side and he managed positions six and eight in both races.

KF2
The last year ICA driver Ramon Kuipers was the man to beat during the premier of KF2. Starting second after heats, he did not leave any doubt in both races, headed away from the grid and made the double win a whole for Gillard/Parilla. Behind him Kevin Munkholm, another Gillard-driver took rank two in final, followed by best Birel-man, Patrick Kappis from Solgat Motorsport, who already finished third in sprint race.

KF3
The junior category presented the biggest grid this weekend with 46 drivers. At first it seemed as if Kevin Illgen could set the pace, since he was quickest in qualifying and the heats. But then others took their chance. In sprint race Rene Binder celebrated his first win in front of Kevin Illgen and Riccardo Brutschin. The latter was the lucky in final, using his chance to pass Binder in the very end and in doing so winning the race in front of Tom Grice and Binder. For Birel Marc-Aurel Coleselli (KSB Racing) reached best result finishing seventh in sprint race and final, too.

KZ2
Birel-driver Pascal Fritzsche (Kartshop Ampfing) was quickest for the reds. Third in qualifying, second after heats and second in sprint race was his balance before the final. Even here Fritzsche defended his position a long time but in the end he had to be satisfied with rank four in finish. In front Marcel Jeleniowski took the win, chased by Verdi Geurts and Rick Dreezen.

ICA
The good old ICA category was in Birels’ hands. Seppi Sticht from Solgat Motorsport took Pole-Position after the heats. During the races, which were partly overshdowed by spectacular accidents Sticht stayed calm and was able to win both races, which made him championship leader, too. In race one Stefan Flühr and Marcus Brandt completed podium, In race two Flühr was second again and third rank went to Lucas Buhk.
